With a passion for mathematics and teaching, Olivia has taught high school mathematics for the 2024-25 school year. Between 2019 and 2024, Olivia tutored ten children, ages 8-18, consistently. She enjoys helping students connect the dots and scaffold learning to increase both understanding and student confidence.
Olivia instructed undergraduate Information students in designing and conducting mixed methods research, including interviews, surveys, and user testing. She guided them in coding qualitative data, analyzing it through affinity diagramming, and effectively communicating findings via personas, scenarios, and data visualizations.
Olivia taught user-research methods to University of Michigan Masters students, mentoring them in crafting interview protocols, conducting interviews, and analyzing qualitative data for client projects. She guided student teams in understanding and addressing client problems through effective solutions.
Eager to mentor aspiring scholars at UM, Olivia has guided 8 undergraduate researchers and 2 masters student researchers across diverse projects, driven by her passion to give back and ignite intellectual passion in others.
Olivia provided organizational and social support by volunteering at the following conferences:Â
ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems: 2017, 2019-2024
ACM Interaction Design and Children (IDC) Conference: 2023
Through roles in the UMSI Doctoral Executive Committee, Rackham Student Government, and UM Advisory Council, Olivia advocated for student well-being and community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Olivia organized initiatives such as a graduate student fundraiser gala and Gab4Joe, a virtual coffee chat program. She also led semester-long peer-support groups for women graduate students as part of the Wolverine Support Network, increasing sign-ups and promoting inclusive well-being.
